Be a Tourist

Be a Tourist

Get tickets to a museum or arboretum. Have lunch at a local restaurant. Check shops for locally-made holiday gifts. Find out what makes your home great, invest in local venues and products, and tell people!

Bonus: if you’re near a target city (Portland, Chicago etc.) take a road trip and post lots of pictures of all the normal things you do.

How to do it:

If we don’t appreciate the things we have, we won’t notice when they’re gone. I live in Seattle, and encounter people who think it was burned to the ground in 2020 on the regular. (It was not.) By spending time doing things locals never get around to, I help support the economy. When I post images online of the fun I’m having, I encourage others to visit too. International tourism is down, so you won’t even have to fight the usual crowds.

If you’re fortunate enough to live near a target city, plan a road trip or weekend away and do the same thing. Portland, Chicago, LA, Memphis, NYC are world-class destinations. Spend the day, or plan a weekend. Post lots of pictures!
