Boost the Signal

When local events happen, most of us can’t go. We can boost the visibility of the event online, helping build the perception of it as an important, newsworthy event. Click through for detailed instructions.

Nov 22nd: Remove the Regime

Look for #removetheregime on social media (BLSKY has more) and boost the signal. Also change your avatar and check in at “U.S. Capitol.”

How to do it:

Whether it’s a DC-based protest or the on-site protests of “Aligator Alcatraz” we’re the media that determines whether anyone notices. We’ll update this post with current specifics, but in general here are ways to boost the signal on events you can’t attend:

  • see if there is a related web site with more information, or a public figure promoting the event
  • look for a hashtag to help you find content
  • interact with that content: like it, comment on it, or share it
  • some events ask people to change their avatar temporarily:
    • right-click on the image and download it.
    • upload to your account profile
    • set it as temporary, or change it back when the event ends (depends on platform.)
  • “Check In” on Facebook to signal support and also provide cover:
  • How to check in:
    • Open Facebook and tap “What’s on your mind?”
    • Tap “Check In” (the red location pin icon).
    • Search for the location (Alt National Parks often posts location details.)
    • Write your message of support, even something like “Here to lobby Congress to hold the Trump administration accountable for their continued disregard for our Constitution and laws” works.
    • Tap Post.
  • look for local or national media and interact with those posts and articles, to signal interest and newsworthiness
