Boycott Starbucks

Starbucks’s workers walked out November 13th in a nationwide open-ended strike. Pick a different coffee shop until the strike ends.

There are many opinions on how to wield economic pressure effectively, but this one is simple: don’t cross a picket line.

Why we do it:

Workers’ power relies on our collaboration. For a walkout to work, especially in a poor job market, the rest of us have to stand with the workers. Whatever you think about broader economic pressure like permanent bans on Amazon or an “everything including travel” ban over Thanksgiving, please commit to never crossing an actual (or virtual) picket line. Don’t shop where workers are on strike. You can also directly support striking workers with a donation to the strike fund:

NOTE: not all Starbucks locations will have a picket lines. The union began on November 13th (“Red Cup Day”) with a limited strike of 65 unionized stores. On November 28th it expanded to include 2,500 unionized Baristas. We encourage you to avoid all Starbucks locations, but if you have a compelling need to shop there (like a corporate account you are required to use for meetings) please look for a location that is not actively picketing.

You can also check on negotiations, sign a customer pledge card, or check the map for direct actions at the Union’s No Coffee No Contract site, or read about the strike on the main organizing page.
