The tax codes changed a lot, but one little-discussed change is that EVERYONE can now donate up to $1000 ($2000 for a joint-filing) even if you don’t itemize. This is a HUGE change, and if you’d like to reduce your tax debt while engaging in mutual support, you should look into it. This is literally money you remove from your taxes owed and transfer where YOU want it, not to whatever atrocity they’re committing.
It’s taxes, so rules apply.
How to do it:
Learn the new tax rules, and then budget to donate as much as you feasably can. If your normal tax rate is 10% and you max out your $1000 deductible donation, it’s like you moved $100 from Trump’s petty cash fund to whatever you care about. If you can’t afford to make donations, spread the word. Very few people know this changed, and even those who donate may not be keeping receipts.

- The ACLU fights for everyone’s rights. Their documentation of human rights violations in detention is horrifying.
- The Human Rights Campaign is fighting for LGBTQ individuals, from transgender people booted from the military to turning out the queer vote in the 2026 midterms.
