Election Holiday!
Election Day should be a national holiday, giving the largest number of people the best opportunity to participate. Far more than the 4th of July, it’s the real day we rededicate ourselves to our founding principles, and vow to work towards fully implementing them.
And now there’s a group dedicated to that proposition! Election Holiday proposes that we start celebrating and build momentum!

How to do it:
They recommend all the usual voter mobilization activities: registering people to vote, door-knocking, becoming a poll watcher, organizing carpools to the polls, etc. The first step is to participate in voting!
They go a step further, suggesting we turn the day into a celebration! We love it! Here are some ideas:
- Pass out snacks and water at your local polling location. NOTE: check laws first. This is banned in some places now.
- Play music or host fun activities near a polling location to make things festive. NOTE: check laws and avoid anything even potentially partisan within sight of polling. This includes issues.
- Hold an open house and invite friends to swing by after they vote. Either double-down with anti-Trump activities like letter writing, or give everyone a break by banning politics entirely!
- Put up bunting or fly a US flag with a progressive flag (peace, LGBTQ…)
- Pass out pro-voting snacks during the day.
- Wear an over the top US themed outfit and tell people why. (Think 4th of July.)
- Buy fun “I voted” stickers and pass them out to people who already voted. (If you vote early, wear one from that day until election day — it’ll start conversations!)
