Businesses in areas hit hard by ICE suffer. From staff decimated by raids and fear, to tear gas and broken windows, it’s hard to stay in operation when the streets have become a war zone. Choose an area currently under attack by ICE, and identify a local business with online sales of goods or gift certificates. Buy something. Donate back to the community, if you can, or just make online purchases.
How to do it:
Keep your eyes out for outspoken or impacted businesses mentioned in news stories, and buy gift certificates “for the community” to help fuel mutual aid. Alternatively, when you need something, look for a business near current ICE surges that sells what you need online. Order from them, and include a note that you understand they’re under siege and will be patient, if you can.
If you’re concerned about accidentally supporting a MAGA friendly business, do some basic vetting. Check their web site for pictures of the windows or other clues. Check reviews for politically-motivated commentary. If you want to let them know it matters, call and ask, then place an order over the phone.
