Holiday Market
Many ethnic communities rely on holiday markets to fund year-round programs. Cottage crafters and makers do too. Look through local event listings for seasonal fairs thrown by immigrant, minority or other local communities, and put it on your calendar! Have some Æbleskiver and pick up gifts for the hard-to-shop-for.

How to do it:
Community events are often advertised by churches, in local papers (especially ones designed for young families!) or on social media “events” pages. Identify markets and fairs in your area that sound interesting, and incorporate them in your social calendar. There’s often entertainment for kids, cultural food options, and nearly always a thriving cottage industry of makers and crafters hoping to fill stockings. Invite friends to join you instead of hosting another dinner, or gather the family at a fair tied to your own heritage.
