Mass Action

Protests are great, but they aren’t the only kind of mass mobilization. From strikes and boycotts to sit-ins and walkouts, creative mass resistance matters. We’ll track big non-protest events here, along with tips to maximize impact.

The next big action is: January 20th at 2pm. A nationwide walkout, it withdraws our consent for “business as usual” on the anniversary of inauguration day.

How we do it:

Walkouts

Walkouts work by generating simultaneous action in many places without the organizational tasks of bringing people together in one location. They rely on distributed planning: a LOT of people need to participate to make an impact. People in collected places like schools or worksites can have a big impact by organizing for a joint action with their peers, but anyone can participate. If you work at home or are retired, you could join with other people at a store that is subject to a boycott or whose workers are organizing a walkout and leave as a group. You can make some noise or unfurl a flag to remind others who may have lost track of the time or spontaneously join. Walkouts may plan rendezvous points which give participants a chance to connect and build community.

(We’ll cover types of actions as they’re scheduled.)
