Share Gift Links
Many subscriptions come with gift links. Terms vary — you might get a set number per month, or per subscription. Research the terms for any newsgroups you subscribe to, then use your gift links to share stories you think are important.
How to do it:
Our funding model for news is broken. It’s fine to say “we should support independent journalism” but the reality is nobody can subscribe to everywhere that has articles you want to read, and the days of passing around a paper copy are long gone. Gift links are the imperfect solution.
Find out how to share articles from wherever you subscribe, and start doing it. When you share on social media, mark it as a gift link. When you see a gift link shared, consider re-sharing it (I will sometimes say “Sharing for the gift link” if I haven’t had time to read it yet but trust the source.)
Information wants to be free, but journalists need to be paid. This is an ethical way to accomplish both goals.
