“Spill the Tea”
Create tiny afternoon pick-me-ups to brighten someone’s day, and “spill the tea” on your favorite form of resistance. Create a ‘zine with a list of local businesses engaged in mutual aid, or spread the word about an action (Whistles?) or a resource like this web site. Write little encouraging notes and tuck them into packs of afternoon joy.
Afternoon tea is a luxury not everyone can afford right now. Spreading joy is resistance!

How to do it:
As food budgets drop, even small indulgences stretch out of reach. We all need — and deserve — a cup of hot tea now and then.
Stock up on tea during the next 2-for-1 sale, or buy in bulk at a restaurant supply store. Bigelow, Stash and Twinings all offer individually packaged bags. (Celestial does not.) Add honey-crystals from the Asian market or honey sticks from the farmer’s market. Emergen-C is cheap at Costco, but then you have five boxes…so share the savings! Make sure everything you include is individually sealed.

We had mesh bags on hand (they’re used to protect organic apples from pests, but we bought the wrong size this spring) but for a more environmental option, consider cellophane bags or decorated lunch sacks.
We added a business card for this site, and will slip them into local Little Libraries, because a cup of tea and a book is self care!
This is an endlessly adaptable idea. “Spill the tea” on your favorite act of resistance with a card or ‘zine, or add a hand-written note of encouragement. Set out a rubber-tote with lunch-sacks of “mystery treats” for anyone who needs encouragement, or tuck them into a Little Library or other mutual aid location. Spreading joy is an act of resistance!
