Tithe for Change

If you are a member of a religious organization (church, synagogue, etc.) call the office and ask how to connect with the program providing food to hungry people in your area. Volunteer or donate to that committee or group.

If your religious organization isn’t feeding hungry Americans, divert your usual contributions to a group that is. Tell them you’re doing this until SNAP is restored.

church, charity, pride

How to do it:

Most religious groups have charity programs to help people in the community. (If they don’t, what are they even doing?) Those programs face massive surges in demand right now. If you are associated with a religious group (you’re a member, or you attend and drop money in the basket) find out what they’re doing, and how you can help. This is absolutely one of the easiest ways to quickly get integrated in volunteer work. Unlike most organizations, you’re already involved…you just need to start showing up!

If you learn that your organization is not doing any food-support activities, move any contributions you have been making to the local food bank. (Send them cash.) Politely tell the office staff why you are making this change. If you choose to look for a better suited religious home tell them that, too.
