Vote Early

USPS downslide began with Susan Collin’s bill to force them to pre-fund retirement benefits and culminates with Trump appointee DeJoy’s slowdowns. Mail can take weeks now.

At the same time, there are multiple efforts underway to close polling locations near colleges and cities — Democratic strongholds.

Insure your ballot gets counted by voting early!

Hundreds of NCCU students march over an hour to vote early, after they were denied an early polling location.

Why we do it:

There are multiple good reasons to vote early:

  • For those of us who have to mail ballots, voting early is essential. Vote as early as you can!
  • Most disenfranchisement efforts will be focused on day-of polling locations. By voting early you don’t just avoid problems for yourself, you also ease the wait on election day.
  • For those of us in states with drop-boxes, it’s less critical to vote early, but it still gives us a chance to resolve any issues, like a misplaced ballot or car trouble.
  • There are also massive #GOTV efforts underway, and while your vote is private, the fact you voted isn’t. If you’d like to stop getting calls, or just want to save volunteer effort, take your name off the rolls by voting!

Finally, DON’T vote early if it means skipping down-ballot races. Judges decide whether rapists’ promising futures are paramount. Sheriffs set policy around racial targeting and ICE cooperation. School boards decide bathroom policy and library content. Every race matters, so take the time to vote them all! If that means a few more days to vote, so be it.
