Ridicule is a great way to fight authoritarians. Respect is essential to their fear campaign. Nothing deflates that faster than humor at their expense.
Portland has a reputation for being weird, and producing creative culture, and they’re meeting the moment of Trump’s threat to send in the military with “Full Force” directives with…satire.
How to do it:
Search the hashtag #WarRavagedPortland and boost the signal. Make the tag go viral — it will both boost the existing signal and attract more content. If you’re in or near Portland, OR contribute original content. If you go out to lunch, or see a pretty sunset, grab a shot and use the hashtag.
If you’re a creative type, take it further. This is where community building is preparation. If you have an improv group, stage a public spectacle treating “the wounded” and have someone film it. If you’re a citizen journalist with a friend who is a born comedian, ask them to pretend to be a survivor of battle and “interview” them. Get creative and use your resources — this is where we have fun!
