Map ICE

Gestapo-like abductions are happening wherever you are. Bring attention to this fact with signs documenting where people have been snatched. Use chalk, stencils, yellow flowers or other markers to let passers-by know an atrocity occurred here, where they live.

How to do it:

To identify locations, search for news stories and get involved with local immigrant rights or whistle resistance groups. Every city has abductions now, but most are quiet and unmarked. This action brings visibility to ICE’s actions.

UPDATE: there is also now a list of particularly problematic detentions, reported to the House Oversight Committee.

Green version: if someone has been snatched in your neighborhood, attach a visual marker (e.g. yellow flowers with “ICE SNATCHED SOMEONE HERE”) or use sidewalk chalk to mark the location. This takes some persistence to maintain, so consider inviting people to adopt a few locations near their neighborhood. By seeking help, you spread the word, too.

Yellow/Red version: Create a stencil and get spray paint. Keep your stencil small and add plastic skirting to reduce over-spray, for rapid travel. Make your graffiti tidy (practice on cardboard if you’re new to stencils) and be respectful of private property. You’re bringing awareness to something that should be far more illegal than your own actions, not trying to be divisive.

Either spray paint very openly, daring (and expecting) arrest, or make your mark at off-hours after checking for surveillance cameras. Do mask and conceal your identity. Do not take your primary phone with you. Do take a trusted friend as lookout. This is not a legal action, but it’s a moral one modeled after the Stolpersteine, or “Stumbling Stone” project, which places small brass plates to memorialize the victims of Nazi Germany.
