ICE angels

Tens of thousands of children face a dismal holiday season, all because our nation has decided nobody is innocent enough to evade detention. All too many of those detainees are children themselves. Buy a gift or donate cash to an immigration group buying gifts for children in detention, or left behind. Check with local immigration groups first. If you don’t find a program, we recommend Americans for Immigrant Justice, rated four stars by Charity Navigator.

How to do it:

Many local immigration rights groups are helping families left stranded after wage-earners were detained. Check with local agencies and churches first. Keep it local if you have the time and energy to research.

If you don’t, we recommend Americans for Immigrant Justice, a well established charity with a four-star rating from Charity Navigator. They accept donations and purchases from their Amazon wishlist, for children in detention.

A note about Amazon wishlists: while we actively look for alternatives to Amazon, we recommend always supporting charities in the way they ask to be supported. The overhead charities face is substantial, so if you prefer not to purchase at Amazon, consider a cash donation or choose another recipient. (If you do, consider sending a polite note explaining why.)
