Food insecurity is only going to get worse in America. Between rising grocery prices, crops lost due to climate change and deportation, and new, draconian SNAP requirements, people are going to be hungry. Add in a fertilizer shortage due to the oil disruption, and this isn’t getting better any time soon.
Elections matter. If they didn’t, Trump’s election wouldn’t matter. Start talking about how political decisions affect our daily lives. Avoid idealism or quick-fixes. It took years to build to this regime, and it will take years to recover from it. Fight cynicism and make hard work cool again. Elections set conditions for all our other fights.

Looking for a good community-building activity? Throw a toiletry kit “potluck.” Decide how many kits you’ll make, then ask each person to bring one travel-sized item in sufficient numbers. If you have extra people, throw in a treat or some cash. Click through for lists and more ethical places to buy. Keep them in the car to hand out, put in community pantries, or donate to a shelter.
