Back to School
It’s back to school season, and that stretches families! Could you offer to do some back-to-school shopping for a kid you’re fond of? Take a trip to the outlet mall for shoes or a new backpack!
Or donate to one of the many funds that exist to help outfit kids. Look in stores with class lists to see if they have a donation option, or reach out to a local women’s shelter to help.

How to do it:
Back to school is an expensive time for many families. Help out with one of these ideas:
- Take a kid you know shopping for shoes, a jacket, a backpack — pick one item they’ll need.
- Give a kid going off to college funds for books, or gift certificates for little luxuries like pizza
- Call your local school and ask to fund classroom supplies or drop some off for kids who show up without
- If there’s a free pantry near you, drop off easy kid-snacks
- Call the school and ask if you can pre-fund lunches for kids who run out of cash
- Donate money or supplies to a local homeless or women’s shelter — a new backpack can be a big deal to a kid in a struggling family
- visit your local store with a classroom supply list and consider dropping off packs of matching items, labelled by grade, at a pantry or shelter near you. Throw in a treat!
