Blue Food

Farmers are famously conservative, but they’re also essential to our nation’s stability, our planet’s future, and our dinner tables. One of the best steps you can take to fight back is to buy locally grown food…and now there’s a growing movement to help you find farmers who didn’t vote for their own destruction.

We’ll highlight some of these newer groups, but also encourage you to look at local farmers guides, and get to know folks where you live!

How to do it:

Blue Agriculture

Blue Beef is building its rancher list, so right now (Aug ’26) the most helpful thing you can do is to tell non-MAGA ranchers about it. They say: “Buy USDA-inspected beef from Democratic ranchers and distributors who openly share their standards, practices, and political affiliation.”

Blue Dot Farms is a list of farmers who self-identify their political affiliation, across a variety of types of agricultural activity. While some farmers identify themselves with a blue dot, the searchable database is under development. They also have a membership-only facebook group during the buildout. If you are interested in helping them grow, or are an eligible farmer, consider joining the movement.

While these new organizations spin up, check your local farmers market for guides to U-pick, fresh meat, and other buy-it-here options. Then check the advertising and pictures of the farm for clues to their politics. Many minority, woman or queer-owned farms will prominently display that information. Or just call and ask them. “I’m trying to support local agriculture that’s aligned with my values. I support gay equality, oppose ICE, and believe Black Lives Matter. Would I be comfortable wearing a t-shirt promoting those ideas while shopping at your stand?” Sure, people can lie, but even if they do you’ve sent a message: this is a buying decision for a growing number of people.
