Tens of thousands of children face a dismal holiday season, all because our nation has decided nobody is innocent enough to evade detention. All too many of those detainees are children themselves. Buy a gift or donate cash to an immigration group buying gifts for children in detention, or left behind. Check with local immigration groups first. If you don’t find a program, we recommend Americans for Immigrant Justice, rated four stars by Charity Navigator.

There are too many economic calls to track this holiday season. We support the “We Ain’t Buying It’ movement which exempts small business, but we also encourage Buy Nothing Day, an economic protest older than the Patriot Act. The idea is simple: on Black Friday, buy nothing.
