Daily Tasks

A collection of all the concrete, simple steps we have imagined so far. If you would like to refine your search further, we’ve broken them down into tasks that take money, tasks that take time, and things that help you be resilient, so you can keep resisting for as long as it takes. They’re up there in the menu!

Fix Brake Lights

Cops use small issues like failed taillights to pull people over for identity checks. For vulnerable populations a simple mechanical issue can cascade into life-changing events.

NorCal Resistance hosts clinics to fix cars! Donate to their effort, or if you’re inspired, start a program where you live!

Step Up

Protests work by building community, but you have to take the next step. If you collected a contact card or flyer at a recent protest, reach out now! Sign up for a mailing list or Signal chat and just lurk for a while. If you have no contacts, both Indivisible and NDLON are very experienced at integrating new folks.

“Default” task

We’ve been at this for more than a year now. Energy waxes and wains, and sometimes life gets busy for all the normal reasons. It’s easy to skip the resistance for a day that turns into a week or a month. Push back : pick a default task to do on a regular schedule when you’re too tired to make a plan.

Lost Tips

Shutdowns that include service industries are hard on tipped workers. This is doubly true for shutdowns on busy days, like the “ICE OUT OF EVERYWHERE” shutdown on January 30th.

During closures, look for businesses supporting the cause. Make a plan to go soon, and tip twice what you usually would, if you can.

Values

Find your Lane

Experts on resisting fascism recommend that we identify our values. When we know what our bottom line is, it’s harder to be shoved over it.

Experienced organizers suggest that we identify our “lane” : what do we want to work on, and how do we want to do it? Identify your values and priorities to resist effectively.

Expand your comfort zone

Do something outside your comfort zone today. Go to a protest, call your senator, or join a local group to learn more. Or do something that isn’t resistance related at all! Speak in public or invite someone to lunch. Practice courage and you’ll build courage!
