Use every legal means to reduce the money you give this regime via taxes. Here’s an entirely legal one: make contributions to IRA or HSA accounts before the tax deadline, and you can remove that income from your taxes for the prior year.
Maybe you have a local friend or neighbor who would like to stay in the know on community happenings, but can’t afford it. Gift them a year’s subscription to a local newspaper, national magazine, or the PBS station!

Goodwill is convenient, but commercial, and religious charities may discriminate in distribution efforts. What to do? Most areas have at least a few thrift stores designed to benefit a specific target cause: DV victims or immigrants or animals. Some stores accept specific goods like home building or pet supplies that others won’t take. Research local options and take another step away from commercialism!
If you are able, set up a small, recurring donation to your favorite charity, instead of making larger annual contributions. Like all of us, charities need a budget they can count on. If money is tight, scan for a subscription you can cancel and donate an equivalent amount.

The food industry is one of the few not utterly monopolized in America. Protests can disrupt and drive away business, so if you’re turning out to an event, spend some money (cash is good!) at a nearby business. Take your sign along, and be a good customer. Tip well!
